MINUTES

Present:          Patricia Petretti, Chair; Stephen Cascio, Connie Ferwerda, Peggy Gregorski,

Virginia Hartley, Melanie Hovey, Brenda Lashbrook, Diane Levesque, Giancarlo Potente,

I.          Patricia Petretti called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M.

II.          Minutes of the Arts Fund Executive Committee meeting of February 16, 2005 were                              approved as submitted.

III.         Virginia Hartley reported for the Grants Process subcommittee:

            A.         Long-range goal of grants totaling at least $6,000 per year.

            B.         Proposed to annually grant two 1-year scholarships to Carthage and

UW-Parkside students, alternating among students pursuing art, music, and

theater.

            C.        Scholarships to be allocated to the two institutions, with the institutions to select

                        recipients.

            D.        It was reported that UW-Parkside would prefer to administer scholarships of no

less than $1,000 each year (which is more than the Arts Fund would have

available for 2005).

            E.         Following discussion, the subcommittee’s proposal was tabled for consideration

of alternatives, including open-competition grants to artists and art students that

would be noteworthy in terms of community awareness.  Melanie Hovey and

Brenda Lashbrook agreed to join Virginia Hartley and Diane Levesque for an

    expanded subcommittee.

IV.        Peter Walcott reported for the Public Awareness/Fund Raising subcommittee:

            A.         First 2005 event to be held Sunday, May 22:

                        1.         Niemi Sculpture Gallery.

                        2.         2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

                        3.         Tickets $50 each.

                        4.         Event to showcase Public Art Guide.

                        5.         Music, refreshments, invitations to be arranged by subcommittee.

            B.         Second 2005 event to be held in October at Carthage College (assuming

                         completion of road construction project).

V.         Stephen Cascio reported on the Public Art Guide:

            A.         Draft was reviewed in detail; suggestions were offered to highlight

Foundation,  the Arts Fund, and Bank One as sponsor.

            B.         It was resolved to approve a design/layout payment of $1,500 to Stephen

Cascio, with $750 payable in advance of the printing, to be underwritten

by the Bank One grant of $5,000.

VI.        The next meeting of the Arts Fund Executive Committee was scheduled for

5:30 P.M.  on Wednesday, April 20, 2005.

VII.       There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:55 P.M.

Respectfully submitted:

Peter Walcott
